What does your job involve? My main role is to write computer programs for the healthcare industry using a special type of computer programming language called Java. This involves working closely with other team members to understand the functional and technical requirements of the program.

What do you like most about your job? I like the range of challenges I have to tackle daily. I get to work on technical problems, talk with other team members and surf the Internet for free.

What is the most unusual or fun thing you’ve done in your job? Writing tools for assisting in application development.

What inspired you to choose a career in this area? I have a natural liking of writing computer programs and enjoy their challenges.

What’s the best advice you’ve been given? Keep quiet and listen.

What training/qualifications do you have/need? Bachelor degree in Computing Science, IT, Engineering or equivalent with a GPA of 6.0 or above. This is an entry level for an Associate Engineer. With two years or more experience in the industry you can achieve the Application Engineer position.

What subjects did you study at school? Physics, Maths B, Maths C, Chemistry, and Information Processing and Technology.

What are your career goals/plans for the future? My career plan is to move into a system architect role.

What career opportunities are there for people in your field? Computer programmers can move into project management roles, system architect roles, support roles and sales roles.
